Why? Because he seems like a total tool, no- he seems like a whole shed full of tools- a calculated ball of record industry goo that does not have one ounce of sincerity, originality, or intensity. I do understand why he's famous, I do understand that some people think he's great. I just don't see it. I probably never will... his eyes seems dead, there is no passion in his voice or dancing or movements- yes I am consciously imposing these judgements and limits on my perception (which is something I usually shy away from). Meh!
In any case, I used to feel that way about anything related to JT at all, but now due to the wonderful band I am in doing a cover of his song "Cry Me A River" at our last show, I can say I like that song- the melody, and what we were able to do with it. Please enjoy our rivers of tears! Let me know what ya think!
Super Powers- is what the latest wave of social media + technology is giving us. Think about it, seriously. By using a service like vLingo I can update my status on Twitter & Facebook by simply talking to my phone, then instantly the entire internet can see what I just said in text form- not a far stretch from the telepathy that super heros in comics and movies employ.
This is not far from the sentient-all-knowing mind of "The Oracle" in the movie The Matrix. I can only imagine once this activity is more developed and more widely adopted by the greater human population wouldn't we in essence be reading each others minds like the X-Men character Jean Grey does with her telepathic powers? If all my neighbors in my apartment building are attaching Twitpics to their Tweets or streaming video with their web cams isn't this pretty close to X-Ray vision? The future is here. The future is awesome!!!
Alela Diane, the beautiful native American folk singer, who is from Joanna Newsome's hometown of Nevada City, is about to drop her new album "To Be Still" on Feb 18th.
Here is the music video for the single "White as Diamonds" from the same album.
I've been an Alela fan for a couple years now. Last april while visiting Berlin I went to an awesome art building called Tacheles. On the top floor is hodge podge bar and the bar tender was playing Alelas last album "The Pirates Gospel." The Germans like her, Portland likes her, and I like her :)
When Technology meets Art and they go on a week long coke bender in Vegas, contract a few stds and then try to sell their excrement to little kids- interesting things start to happen.
Apparently this behavior has become quite popular with the youngsters on the interwebs, check out a whole bunch of these videos made out of all your favorite pop gems. Below is a commercial about how Microsoft intended Songsmith to be used... what a bunch of tools.
"Spring comes into Quebec from the west. It is the warm Japan
Current that brings the change of season to the east coast of Canada,
and then the West Wind picks it up. It comes across the prairies in
the breath of the Chinook, waking up the grain and caves of bears. It
flows over Ontario like a dream of legislation, and it sneaks into
Quebec, into our villages, between our birch trees. In Montreal the
cafes, like a bed of tulip bulbs, sprout from their cellars in a
display of awnings and chairs. In Montreal spring is like an autopsy.
Everyone wants to see the inside of the frozen mammoth. Girls rip off
their sleeves and the flesh is sweet and white, like wood under green
bark. From the streets a sexual manifesto rises like an inflating
tire, "The winter has not killed us again!"...Spring comes to Montreal
so briefly you can name the day and plan nothing for it." ~Leonard Cohen
This was sent to me by a friend. I thanked him. Mr. Cohen is shiz!
