Up here in Portland OR we like coffee a whole lot. We also tend to like all things Lynchian... In addition to running the David Lynch Foundation, which provides scholarships to young kids so that they can learn transcendental meditation, giving sporadic "daily" weather reports, and offering a special "members" portion of his site for $9.97 / month, Mr. Lynch has also started selling coffee from his website

There are three flavors or blends: esppresso, house roast, and french roast decaf. A portion of the proceeds go to the David Lynch Film Scholarships at the American Film Institute.

I haven't purchased any yet but I am very tempted.

Before there was music videos there was...

...a Japanese horror flick called Hausu. Yes, before there was any ironic music videos, before there was any music videos, before there was MTV, we're talking 1977- there was Hausu. While there is not technically a pop song behind the featured video clip "Piano Death" there is some crazy spastic piano playing that rivals the best experimental hipster noise bands out there. But, the point is not the music- it's the visuals... Hausu has got some wicked sweet old skool viz effects that blow any 8 bit hipster band off the screen- which is probably why an 8 bit hipster showed me this video!

Little Red Hiding Hood or a commercial?

Check out this awesome motion graphics video made by Swedish designer/animator Tomas Nilsson. His school assignment was to reinterpret "Little Red Riding Hood" what he came up with seems more like it could be the future of TV commercials. Will people become so immune / capable of blocking ads that advertising will have to resort to building ads into entertainment? Imagine watching Beauty & The Beast and all the sudden the hunters gun displays a price tag from Big 5 sports? Is that scary, weird or interesting?

The Penny Jam + Grey Anne = Awesome

So, there is this rad team of people here in PDX who do this rad thing called The Penny Jam- basically they pick cool local bands and shoot a video of them performing their song in a cool unexpected location. The lighting, camera work, and editing is always excellent, and the sound recording and mixing is top notch!

In this video the mystical Portland songstress Grey Anne performs her song "Curio" in a mannequin factory. It quite a nice sight as Grey Anne deftly concocts a delicious aural smoothy with her looping pedal, angelic voice, clapping, stomping, and delicate guitar plucking. Enjoy
